Presentation

The Commune of Mandjou is one of 8 communes in the department of Lom-et-Djérem, in the East Cameroon region. It was established as an autonomous commune by decree no. 2007/115 of 23 April 2007, after having been known for a long time as the Commune of Bertoua Rurale. It now covers an area of 8,500 km², with an estimated population of 68,995, including 55,202 hosts and 13,793 Central African refugees, giving a population density of around 8 inhabitants per km². Its geographical coordinates are latitude 4.66424°N and longitude 13.79346°E.

The Commune of Mandjou is bounded to the north by the Commune of Ngoura, to the south by the Communes of Dimako and Nguélébok, to the east by the Commune of Batouri, and to the west by the Communes of Bélabo, Bertoua I and Bertoua II.

Responsibilities of the Commune of Mandjou

Mandjou Town Council is responsible for :

1° Basic education: Participation in the maintenance and administration of basic education establishments;

1° Basic education: Participation in the maintenance and administration of basic education establishments;

3° Urban planning and roads: Urban planning, creation and maintenance of earth roads;

4° Tourism: Development and operation of tourist sites of local interest;

5° Leisure and holidays: Organisation of holiday activities ;

6° Public health: Participation in the management of basic health centres;

7° Rural development: Promoting local rural and agricultural development ;

8° Environment : Environmental protection and waste management ;

9° Social action: Social aid and assistance for vulnerable groups ;

10° Local economic development: Promotion of local economic activities.
